Beginner's Jewellery skills course
Would you like to start learning how to make jewellery? Yes! Let’s go then…
Come along on Monday evenings beginning 13th January from 6.30pm to 8.30pm where you will learn a range of beginners skills in making jewellery.
What will you learn?
Week 1 We will begin with getting to grips with tools, the workshop and metals. You will make a simple ring and earrings.
Week 2 Get to grips with the piercing saw by cutting a design in sheet. This will become either a pendant or brooch once finished.
Week 3 Soldering and melting down metal. You will learn soldering techniques and best practices. We will then move on to learn how to melt metal in preparation of week four.
Week 4 Forging! You will learn how to forge metal with the piece we prepared the previous week. This will become a ring.
Week 5 Connections. This week you will learn how to make simple fittings for earrings, pendants and brooches.
Week 6 Finishes. In week six you will learn how to file, sand and polish. You will also learn various texturing techniques.
Week 7&8 Over to you. With all the amazing new skills that you have learnt over the past six weeks you will make your own design(s) with Shannon there to guide you. You will make something unique to treasure!
Who is this for?
This course is for complete beginners but all participants must be over 16. It is for up to four people so that you have the best tuition experience.
What is provided?
Shannon will provide a printed course guide for you to keep. Each week we will be working in copper to learn the new skills. For the melt and forging lesson a small amount of silver will be provided. During week 7 & 8 you can choose to keep working in the copper provided or purchase silver from Shannon to make your design(s) with. You will get to take home all the pieces you have made. Light refreshments will be provided to keep you going through your lessons.
Course will finish on Monday 10th March 2025. There will be a break on Monday 10th February for half term.
Please wear long hair tied up, do not wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.
If you need glasses to see things up close please bring them with you. Making jewellery is rather fiddly!
