Beginners Jewellery Level 1 Skills Course
Would you like to start learning how to make jewellery? Yes! Let’s go then…
Come along on Wednesday evenings beginning 9th April from 6.30pm to 8.30pm were you will learn a range of beginners skills in making jewellery.
What will you learn?
Week 1 We will begin with getting to grips with tools, the workshop and metals. You will begin with making a ring.
Week 2 Learn how to shape the metal with pliers and achieve strong joints for soldering. We will make a teardrop pendant, round circles for earrings and chain links.
Week 3 Get to grips with the piercing saw by cutting a simple design in sheet. This will become brooch once finished.
Week 4 With all of the pieces from the first three weeks you will learn all about soldering and best practices. By the end you will have fabricated your rings, earrings, pendant and brooch.
Week 5 & 6 Melting and forging! These two weeks you will make a silver ring from complete scratch. You will begin with learning how to metal down silver into your little ingot to then begin forging it into a square wire. Week six will start by continuing your forging, once the measurements are achieved you will roll out the silver with the rolling mill to a long ring to make your ring.
Week 7 & 8 Finishes. In week seven you will learn how to file, sand and polish. You will also learn various texturing techniques.
Weeks 9 & 10 Over to you. With all the amazing new skills that you have learnt over the past eight weeks you will make your own design(s) with Shannon there to guide you. You will make something unique to treasure!
Who is this for?
This course is for complete beginners but all participants must be over 16. The course capacity is for up to six people so that you have the best tuition experience.
What is provided?
Shannon will provide a printed course guide for you to keep.
Each week we will be working in copper to learn the new skills. For the melt and forging lesson a small amount of silver will be provided.
During week 9 & 10 you can choose to keep working in the copper provided or purchase silver from Shannon to make your design(s) with.
You will get to take home all the pieces you have made. Light refreshments will be provided to keep you going through your lessons.
Course will finish on Wednesday 11th June 2025.
Please wear long hair tied up, do not wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.
If you need glasses to see things up close please bring them with you. Making jewellery is rather fiddly!
